The US Conference of Catholic Bishops said it will launch a formal inquiry into the Girl Scouts of America over the group’s associations with organizations that promote views opposed by the church.

About one-fourth of the Girl Scouts’ 2.3 million youth members are Catholic, and the bishops’ investigation will look into “possible problematic relationships with other organizations,” according to a letter Thursday sent by Bishop Kevin Rhoades of Fort Wayne, Ind., to his fellow bishops.

The decision to scrutinize the Girl Scouts comes at a time when the 100-year-old institution has found itself under increasing pressure from conservatives for such moves as allowing a seven-year-old transgender girl to join a Colorado troop.

What the fuck??? 

They’re “investigating” an organization that is independent of their church for maybe having views opposed to theirs? 

The Girl Scouts don’t have an agenda, Catholic bishops. Seriously, when I was a Girl Scout I was always so happy to go to our meeting every week because it was a period out of my week where I got to eat snacks and make crafts and I knew nobody would make fun of me. So, y’know, if making a space for ALL GIRLS to hang out and make crafts and know they’ll be accepted is something that the Catholic Church is opposed to morally, then that’s just another reason for me to avoid Catholics. 

What they’re “investigating” is whether or not they “need” to force Catholic parishes from shutting down all of the individual Girl Scout troops they are sponsoring as retaliation against the Girl Scouts of America (i.e. the national-level leadership) for having un-Catholic viewpoints.

They’ll totally do it, too. This is how they work. :(

(Side note: this would be yet another reason not to use the word “problematic”. It means literally whatever the speaker wants it to mean.)

You’ll “investigate” and fuck over a really good organization cuz it’s proving that it isn’t cissexist and bigoted but you’ll ignore and bury every single one of the survivors your priests and bishops and whatnot have molested, huh?
