I still don’t understand how that is abuse. If had destroyed the computer without broadcasting anything online and posting a video in response to her Facebook note—-would it not have been abusive then? I dont understand, is it the VIDEO itself that is abusive? Or is it him shooting the computer that he bought with his money abusive? 

Regardless, she’s a shitty kid. Its pretty clear. And he is a shitty parent. But I would have taken her privileges away as well. I wouldnt have publicized it or SHOT A GUN AT A COMPUTER. But he never mentioned attacking his daughter. He was just getting rid of the computer….

I don’t get how this is “abusive”. 

EDIT: And I come from a REALLY abusive family. So when I say I don’t consider this “abuse” I really mean I dont understand why it IS abusive. I can see him saying that he will remove her privileges as threatening. But I always assumed that abuse was a mental, emotional and physical type of thing. I dont think he attacked her in any of those ways. He said that things were going to change, and that life was going to get harder in the aspect of her having to actually have real responsibilities.

I think that these privileged kids who have parents who have spoiled them rotten do need to learn a lesson. Removing her privileges and making her EARN what she wants and making her show respect to her providers, her parents—- is a step in the right direction. I don’t approve of the video or the gun shots. Just to be clear.

I just dont want to think this is hilarious, which I do, if it should be regarded as horrible. I still dont understand whats so abusive about this. 

He used a gun to punish his child. Made a video of him punishing her by destroying something with a gun using hollowpoint bullets (bullets designed for maximum lethality) that he planned on charging her for. Put that video on her facebook.

That’s intimidation. Clear and simple. Intimidation is a component of emotional abuse. He is being threatening as fuck here. To his daughter, who has no power in this situation and lives with him.

That’s emotionally abusive. Quite possibly mentally abusive too.

No one is saying he shouldn’t have taken the laptop. He could’ve taken it away and given it to charity. Or sold it. Or made it so she owed him money for it and couldn’t use it till she paid him back. But videotaping himself shooting holes into it with hella lethal bullets, using a handgun (which is used to wound and kill people, not animals for hunting) and then putting that on her facebook?

I don’t see how anyone could see that sort of violent intimidation to be anything but abusive. And I come from an abusive situation too (pretty much entirely my father).
