Dearest friends, colleagues, fans, and the rest;

I’m sure many of you have been shocked and perhaps outraged by Amber Hazard’s recent accusations of my ostensive transmysogyny and transphobia. This is my response.

Introduction

When these accusations arose my immediate rage-initiated…

there is still absolutely NO excuse for what you said. it was horrifying and disgustingly transphobic. for you, a person who identifies as a cis male, to try to decide whether someone else’s identity is valid, regardless of what they’ve done to you, is WRONG.

(this just fucking reminds me of when the news about alaska-says-sun broke and all the cis people decided that because ze lied in a terrible way, it was ok to decided that ze wasn’t genderqueer based on those other lies).

as for the whole you were going to “bash back over the internet” and not actually hurt anyone physically, you knew full well what your message sounded like. it does not matted if you intended it to sound that way. (and, to quote genderbitch, intent isn’t fucking magic.)

i absolutely understand that this a complicated issue, there are a lot of complex feelings involved, that there is a backstory, but i do NOT excuse your disgusting transphobia in this situation. you do not get to wax poetic about how you’re such a big ~trans ally~ while you have actively denied someone’s identity. YOU DON’T GET TO FUCKING DO THAT. and you don’t get to excuse it. ever. it would have been a lot fucking better if you just OWNED the fuck up to your shit instead of writing this long ass self righteous message about why it was okay for you to tell a trans person they were ‘appropriating queer culture.’ that was wrong, and that was the issue that was addressed originally, until it blew up into something else.

i get it. if amber’s a shitty person, she’s a shitty person. but she’s still a woman and you do not get to decide that she isn’t because of how you personally feel about her.

Amber did not contact a single company that Quinn works for. It is entirely false to say that she did. 100% of Amber’s actions took place on her tumblr and on the walls of her facebook friends. Amber reacted the way she did because she was afraid of her own safety after recieving lots of extremely aggressive texts telling her that she was going to be “driven out”  of the place she lives by “an irate crew on deck ready to bash her.” She was fearing for her own safety and had EVERY SINGLE REASON TO BE AFRAID.

Everyone is acting like this “nomination” was a real one, for some nationally recognized award ceremony that would destroy Quinn’s career. It was a nomination for “transmisogynist of the year award” on her friend’s tumblr for an award ceremony that doesn’t even exist (but, totally should, if people want it to). The original post that caused Quinn to explode in threats and angry texts — that he now admits were rage-driven and inappropriate — currently has thirty six notes. Thirty six notes. The other post regarding this currently has TWO NOTES. That’s it. Amber was not waging a campaign against Quinn. These were small fucking potatoes, these posts were Amber talking with her friends about her experience being told by Quinn, a cis man, that she is not allowed to identify as a woman. And Quinn, a queer porn star who feels very invested in his public image, found that an ex-friend and ex-lover was talking about very real fucked up shit that he did, and completely lost it. yes, there is tons of backstory, i am not trying to deny that. as Amber’s friend, I have heard very long accounts of this back story and i admit that it is very complicated. also as Amber’s friend, I don’t think for one second that she is a “shitty person” who is “incapable of feeling compassion” as some have said. I do, however, most certainly believe that Quinn Valentine is a SHITTY FUCKING PERSON, regardless of backstory for:

1) being a queer cis man who told a trans woman she is not allowed to identify as a woman or use she/her pronouns, effectively asserting himself as the gender/queer police. i don’t care what kind of gymnastics you try to do to justify this — Quinn contacted Amber and told her that she is not a woman, that she is not allowed to be queer, that she is not allowed to identify the way she wants. THIS ALONE IS DISGUSTING AND VILE AND IS REASON ENOUGH FOR YOU TO GET BLACKLISTED.
2) using his position as a queer porn star to make her feel fearful of participating in queer communities in the bay area — the place that she was born and raised. telling her that “[his] queer community” would not believe her, telling her that because he is a queer porn star, everyone would take his word over hers. 
3) being a cis man who threatened a woman with violence (“i have an irate crew on deck ready to bash you back”) when he discovered she spoke openly about the ways that he was transmisogynist — even though she only spoke about it on her personal tumblr and her friend’s tumblr in two posts that only received 36 and 2 notes, respectively.

Amber is an amazing human being and I’ve grown so much love for her in the past week as I’ve supported her through the IMMENSE BULLSHIT that is Quinn Valentine and every single person who has attempted to defend his actions. I hope that all oppressed people nominate the oppressive assholes in their life for various awards highlighting said oppressive assholeishness, and that if the nominees threaten them with being “driven out of the bay, do you understand, fucker???” and an “irate crew on deck ready to bash them” that they have a crew of supporters to back them up.

FUCK CIS MEN WHO THINK THEY CAN SILENCE TRANS WOMEN WHO SPEAK THEIR TRUTHS, AND FUCK PEOPLE WHO SUPPORT THEM.
