After reading the reblogs that my post about trans men reclaiming "tranny" has generated, I've realized why my original post was wrong, and have come to change my opinion on the matter. However, one problem that I think remains is that even though "tranny" definitely has very strong misogynistic connotations, it's still used to degrade the identities. It’s a misogyny specific cissexist attack word. Comparing it’s usage on trans men vs. its use on trans women is like comparing someone calling a straight man a f**got vs. someone calling a gay man a f**got.
Just cuz some privileged people get hit with the word doesn’t mean they get to reclaim it.
